Checklist for personal Injury matters
So tired of feeling pain, you’ve made the decision to get a lawyer.
Congratulations on this decision, after all you deserve adequate compensation for your personal injury, pain and suffering and expenses incurred. We’ve put together a list of items that you would need to carry to your lawyer as follows:
- Medical reports- Medical reports prepared by doctors would be the evidence of the injuries sustained by the injured party and provide the causal link ie. connection between the injuries sustained and the event whether motor vehicle accident, slip and fall or injuries on the job to give examples. It is important to disclose all the details to the doctor in terms of injuries. In the event serious that the injuries would be then there would also be the need for a disability rating.
NB: For these reports, it is important to seek treatment quickly after the incident given that if the medical report is too long after the incident the report will be discredited and/or strongly contested.
- Physiotherapy reports- Some injuries need physiotherapy in which case, the physiotherapist would also need to prepare the report as evidence of the treatment received.
- Psychiatry/psychology reports- In the event that such treatment is needed, these medical reports are critical as recognition of psychological illnesses need to be supported by tangible evidence.
- Receipts-Those bills sure do rack up. The importance of keeping receipts are clear as it is the numerical evidence of expenses incurred in relation to the injuries sustained.
- Police reports- These reports are critical especially for motor vehicle accidents. The police report sets out the circumstances of the accident along with the detail and are useful in helping to determine liability and in settlement negotiations.
